Chennai: The Madras High Court today dismissed a petition by Tamil film producer Keyar seeking to ban actor Vishal from contesting the upcoming Tamil Film Producers Council elections.
Justice Kalayana Sundaram dismissed the plea and said Vishal could contest the Council election scheduled to be held 5 March.
In the petition, the producer-director had contended that Vishal, who is general secretary of South Indian Artists’ Association (Nadigar Sangam) cannot contest the Producers Council election. He said that the actor’s nomination should not be accepted as he can’t hold two posts at the same time, if he won the latter. He then requested the court to ban the actor from participating in the polls.
It may be recalled that a team led by Vishal filed nominations for the Film Producers Council elections, which led to the case.
