Chennai: Come 14 April, Vijay starrer 'Theri' will be released in a gala manner. Directed by Atlee, the movie is produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu.

To be released in both Tamil and Telugu simultaneously, plans are on for a mega release in over 1,500 screens. Vijay will be seen essaying the role of an IPS officer in the film. His co-stars Amy Jackson and Samantha Ruth Prabhu don the roles of teacher and doctor respectively.

Veteran filmmaker Mahendran plays baddie in the film. The movie has music by G V Prakash Kumar. Cinematography is handled by George C Williams.

Says Atlee, "The title 'Theri' was chosen since it implies spark, energy and force. We expected that it would provide top-of-mind recall for audiences. Although 'Theri' is an action thriller, we have laced beautiful family emotions in the screenplay. This will be a complete cinema."

"There is a strong underlying message in the film which is told in a very simple manner. It will be high on emotions," adds Atlee, a former associate of director Shankar who worked in his blockbusters including Rajinikanth’s 'Endhiran' and Vijay’s 'Nanban'.
