Mudhra award for musician O S Thiyagarajan

Chennai: Mudhra, a musical institution, honoured seasoned musician O S Thiyagarajan with ‘Mudhra Award of  Excellence’ at a function held in Infosys Hall, Ramakrishna Mission School, T Nagar, recently.

Veteran musician P S Narayanaswami presented the award to O S Thiyagarajan (photo) in the presence of veteran musician Madurai G S Mani, sabha president Nalli Kuppuswami Chetty and sabha vice-president A Natarajan.

Narayanaswami lauded Thiyagarajan for his contribution to Carnatic music following in the footsteps of his father and guru O V Subramaniam, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Lalgudi Jayaraman.

Mudhra presented Sangeetha Mudhra award to young musicians Anahita Ravindran and Apporva Ravindran (vocal), Apoorva Krishna (violin) and N C  Baradwaj (mridangam) and they were presented by Madurai G S Mani.

Mani, in his speech, suggested the awardees learn a few other instruments like nadaswaram, thavil and thambura which will be of great help to them when they render solo performances.

He also made a special mention of the family of O V Subramaniam who have given their heart and soul to Carnatic music. The function was followed by a music concert by the awardees Anahita and Apporva Ravindran.

Mudhra’s fine arts festival will go on till 3 January 2016 and Anubhav Festival will be held between 4 and 10 January at the same venue.
