From driver to director

Sunday, 11 September 2016

Gurusekara, who hails from a village in Tindivanam, was bitten by the cinema bug and wanted to work under veteran filmmaker Bharathiraja. When he landed in Chennai in 1991, he could not find a place in Bharathiraja’s team. But determined to watch him from close quarters, he joined as driver to the national award-winning director and learnt the nuances of filmmaking standing next to him.

After two decades, today Gurusekara has ventured to helm a movie on his own. Speaking to News Today, he says, ‘My debut venture is titled Valayal. It carries a women-oriented theme. And throws a strong message that one should work hard to achieve things in their life’. Produced by B R Kaliappan, the movie stars Manoj K Bharathi, Sathyjith, Chaplin among others.

Music is by T S Murali Subramani and camera by Siva G. ‘It is an emotional drama and speaks about the travails of a youngster, who comes to city to make a livelihood’. ‘With the blessings of my mentor, I started the film and the shoot was completed in just 45 days. All my artists have given their best’, he adds.
