Talk on epic character Bhishmar

Chennai: Writer P N Parasuraman will deliver a talk on epic character Bhishmar as part of 'Ithihaasa Paathirangal' at Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Vivekanandar Illam, Marina on 26 February, at 6 pm.

According to a press release, Vivekananda Cultural Centre and Chennai 2000 Plus Trust present the monthly lectures 'Ithihaasa Paathirangal' on every fourth Sunday at Vivekananda Illam. A character from the Ramayana or Mahabharata is featured during the analysis at the lecture from a literary point of view.

So far, the characters taken up for presentation are: Bharatan, Anjaneyar, Taarai, Guhan, Urmila, Mandodhari and Vibhishanan. Bhismar is the most interesting character of the Mahabharata epic. He has been discussed and debated upon a plenty in literary fora, and continues to engage writers and scholars, each providing a new dimension or a new line of analysis.
