Chennai: Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa today solemnised the family weddings of ministers' kin and party office-bearers.

At an event at YMCA grounds at Royapettah in the city, she presided over the weddings of the wards of ministers R Vaithilingam, Mukkur N Subramanian, R Kamaraj and S P Shanmuganathan, and MLAs Vairamuthu, K P Munusamy and Budhi Chandran, among others.

Speaking at the event, she wished the 14 newly-weds a happy married life and said they should find happiness by making each other happy. "If you want to succeed in life, you should know the nature of others," she said.

Taking a dig at DMK president M Karunanidhi and his son M K Stalin, she narrated a story. "There was a small boy who wanted to learn politics from his father. After much pressure, the father came forward to teach him politics and asked him to climb a ladder.  After the son reached the top of the ladder, the father took his hands off it and the son fell. When the son asked why his father did that, the father told him, 'who will respect me if you know everything now itself'. The son learnt this as the first lesson of politics," she said, amid thunderous applause.

Jayalalithaa also said after giving some rope to the son, the father has now reined him in.
