Heavy showers likely in parts of TN, Pondy

Chennai: After a week of bright sunshine, it is now time for rainfall activity and Chennaiites can expect some pleasant weather in the next couple of days.

Early this morning, the city and suburbs received a drizzle, bringing down the temperature.

"I had put my clothes out to dry and was surprised to see them wet this morning. However, the past week has been kind of dry with warm conditions throughout. So, I'm happy that the climate is changing," said Kasturi Santhanam, a resident of Nanganallur.

According to the Met department, the maximum temperature today would be around 34 degrees Celsius. "The city weather may be partly cloudy with thundershowers," an official said.

Some people also feel this is a good start for the weekend, as it has been long since the city saw mild weather. "I work in shifts and usually travel in the afternoon where the heat is at its peak. Cool weather is a welcome sign and would be a relief for people like me," said Aditya Kumar, a BPO employee.

In Tamilnadu and Puducherry, there will be fairly widespread rainfall.

Rainfall recorded so far: Omalur 10 cm, Adalur in Arani 9 cm, Renigundapuram and Vaniyambadi 8 cm.

"The change in weather is due to upper air trough from Telangana to the south. It is a conductive activity where the pressure is directed to the left and right directions," the official added.
